Macy's Day parade
Joe and I woke up late and only caught the last hour of the Thanksgiving Day parade. As I watched I had so many memories. I thought of when I was a little girl and we would turn on the parade in the morning. During commercials we ran to the kitchen to help Mom put together the turkey and get it in the oven. After the parade was over we got down to business. The tablecloth was brought out. Mom’s China and silver laid the table. It was only for special holidays we used these. Cooking continued. Dad was the only one who whipped the potatoes. Egg Nog was made. Then we all sat down to dinner. After dinner Dad day at the table while we all cleaned up and helped Mom with the dishes.
Years later the Macy’s parade is playing in my living room. After the Broadway acts we head to the kitchen. The parade is still playing and we can see it from where we are. We make the stuffing and stuff the bird. Liz at a very young age became the one to oil the turkey before we put it in the oven. Then we all head back to the living room to watch the rest of the parade. Once Santa passes by it is time to get to work. By now my mom is over. A generation later and it is still the parade ends which singles time to head to the kitchen. Again the table needs to be set. Now there is no China and silver. We took it back a notch to regular plates and silverware that can be put in the dishwasher. Food is cooked. Family fills in. Some to help with cooking and set up and some after dinner is ready to be placed on the table.
From being a little girl, to being a young mom, to now as a wife slowly losing her husband, it has been nice to spend Thanksgiving with the Macy’s parade.
