Supermarket Avoidance
In this time of pandemic I am the only one going shopping for two households. And I am going as infrequently as possible.
Masked, gloves and with two lists in hand I entered the market. Everything is taped in a one way direction with announcements telling everyone to stay two carriage lengths apart. I forgot the avocado and circled back to get it. Then I noticed someone we used to be close to was hovering over the fruits.
It has been two years since a very painful conversation with them about Joe and about him slipping and relating to him with Alzheimer’s. I thought at the time the conversation though emotional and at times antagonistic but in the end I thought we were at a place of understanding as to what was our new reality.
Now during a pandemic we are in the market at the same time. This was not the time or place for a conversation. It probably would have been an awkward “Hi How are you” conversation. But it was something I just couldn’t handle right now. And to be honest it was something I avoided aisle after aisle.
