How to explain?

Now I know it was too soon.   I told Joe I had a zoom Pharmacy staff meeting in twenty minutes.   Then I ran around, got my notes together, went to the bathroom, had something quick to eat and then logged on.  As everyone was entering the meeting Joe was right there asking me who I was talking to.  I know better twenty minutes is a lifetime ago and I should have repeated myself right before the meeting started.   So now I am trying to tell him what I am doing while watching what is happening in the meeting.   I can see him watching me and know he wants to be a part of it.   

After the meeting ended he asked me again, who were you talking to?   Again I told him it was a pharmacy staff meeting.    He looked at me and said he heard us talking about medicine, why would we do that?    Crikey!   I spoke without thinking, because it’s what we do.   I can see in his face he wants to know more.   I can see he wants to be a part of it.  It’s so hard.  I don’t want to run through every detail multiple times till he may understand it.   I just want to have a meeting and move on.   

Sometimes I handled it better than others.  Sometimes I can go through The Who, what and why over and over.   Other times I end up saying that it was a work thing, or snap it’s what we do.
