God Bless Technology
Six weeks into this pandemic and today I keep thinking “God Bless Technology”. Yesterday and today my phone was blowing up with texts. There were all kinds of texts from the church staff. Some were “Can I dye my hair blue in honor of medical professionals?” To how are you doing and how is Kate?
Next were the messages from Kate as she made a 645 mile trek with Daisy from her childhood home to the first home she will have as a married couple. I was able to track her and she texted when they stopped. I had the ringer on loud as I dozed to know when she made it to my sister’s for the night. I watched and listened for her texts all day today. I texted with my sister about the visit she and Kate had and to thank her for hosting Kate and Daisy during this pandemic.
Multiple times today I took calls from the plumber who was Leary if coming out but regardless came to give us heat and hot water. He wanted the garage door open so he could enter and not be with any of us though he has been our plumber for years. But with the pandemic he could call me, enter the house, give us back heat and text me the bill.
I had texts from my second job today joking about wives now needing to cut our husband and sons hair. More texts came from church to add another elderly parishioner to the Prayer of the Faithful as yet another of our COVID deaths. Again as a staff we processed emotions.
If we had to go through a global pandemic, I am so grateful that we do it in a time of technology that allows us to remain in contact and not feel we are doing this alone.
