A simple trip to the dentist

A simple trip to the dentist

I don’t know how to handle people who know our story and support us, support me. Little things happen that touch me and make me realize once again the amazing support we have.

This afternoon Joe and I went to the dentist for a cleaning. He was called in before me and as he got up I had to say to Cheryl “Do you remember he has Alzheimer’s”. She just nodded and took him back. I saw the guy across the waiting room jump and look at Joe.

Adrienne my hygiene brought out someone, smiled at me and said just a minute more. While I waited I played cribbage on my phone and wondered if Joe would be able to follow directions. Adrienne came and got me. She treated me like I was the queen. I felt such love as she simply cleaned my teeth, continually asked if I was okay and then asked what I did for fun these days.

She did something she has never done before. While she cleaned my teeth, she pushed the door over not quite closed but almost. It was as if she knew I was nervous about how Joe was doing and kept me safe from hearing anything. She kept up a steady stream of conversation and kept checking if I was okay or did I need a minute.

Cheryl came in at the end of my cleaning to tell me Joe did great. He told her all about Liz getting married, Kate almost there and Eric in school. She said he was able to understand what she asked him and follow her.

Once again I am amazed by the loving people surrounding us. It took a simple trip to the dentist to once again show me the love around us. We may have gone for teeth cleaning but we were once again surrounded in love.
