Today my girl got married
Today my baby girl got married officially! A year ago Emily and Dan were supposed to stand in front of Most Holy Trinity Chapel and say their vows. Instead a global pandemic happened and shut the world down. Since Dan is in the Army, they went to a magistrate and signed the document that they were married.
For a year we struggled and wondered were Joe would be and would he know who she was and what was going on. He has been practicing names and church parts. He said parts of the consecration along with Father. But today he walked her down the aisle and watched her say her vows.
There were so many special moments that are jumbled in my head. So much to process. But some things that stuck out, Joe tried to tell the Pastor of the Chapel he was an Altar Boy. When the words wouldn’t come out, I said he has Alzheimer’s and how special it is for him to be there for his daughter. The Pastor, Father Matt, then anointed Joe and our friend Patrick.
After the ceremony I received a text from four very special people in my life. It was a toast to Dan and Emily with congratulations, a toast and well wishes in their marriage.
The photographer was trying to get Joe into this position or that. I told him he had Alzheimer’s. Not only was he very patient but my oldest and youngest maneuvered Dad into position.
There were times we had to move this way or that way for pictures. My sister, brother and brother in law would grab Joe’s hand and guide him where he had to go.
It was very important to Joe to thank everyone who helped. He went to Dan’s dad, Father, Allie, Dan’s mom. Each and every one listened to him, acknowledged him, and guided him.
God puts amazing people in our lives always. It is up to us to see them and love the part they play in our lives.
