To be good at everything

To be good at everything

Do you remember when you were young and thought you were good at everything? Or as a teen who thought “I’ve got this life thing worked out”.  This week has reminded me again, not only do I not want to be good at everything, I love having others step in.

One day this week Jackie opened her computer screen.    I had shivers down my back and said to her how much I did not want her job.    I could not keep track of all those numbers and all those columns.  At lunch that day our Deacon called his wife and asked her to figure out if a paver order worked.    To be in that room, would have made your mind spin.    She calculated, recalculated, redesigned, calculated again and just made all our minds spin out of control.

Later that afternoon, she sent us a blueprint of the design she figured out.   She told me this was easy and she loved this kinda stuff.  It took me way back to elementary school with Eric.   I would pick up he and a few neighborhood boys and we walked home.

Eric had been diagnosed with a learning disability and I had been working hard to tell him the teachers needed to know the best way for his brain to learn.  One afternoon when we were walking a neighbor boy asked me about Eric.    I said to him,  “ We can’t all be good at everything”.  The reply was, “But I am”

This week brought this memory to the forefront of my mind while also realizing the power of the gifts God has given us.   I could not do my job without any of the staff.   We are a team.  We each bring something to the table.   We each are integral to the Parish Staff.   I could not do my job without each and everyone of them.

So yes my friends, we cannot be good at everything.   God is calling us to our gifts and talents.   He is calling us to use our skills for his benefit.    Are you doing that?

What about me?

What about me?
