Alzheimer's and a power outage
I drove home through a crazy storm tonight only to find the worst was at the end of my street. I turned in to branches all over the place. Being a dead end this is a true problem. I was able to clear a path to get my car through and get home only to find out we have no power.
Joe has all the flashlights he could find with him. I grabbed a glass of wine and sat on the couch to have Joe tell me he would sit right next to me to calm me down. After driving through the storm, clearing the end of my street, seeing my mom out, Joe sitting right next to me was not the calming power I needed.
Over and over we went back and forth. Did you have a good day? Will I be able to see the debate? Back and forth we went. I hit my end. Let’s go outside and see what is going on.
Just like our kids, take them outside and the mood changes. He watched the clouds. He looked at the houses around us. He looked at the trees down and those around us. He watched the workers for the electric company. He listened to the sirens all around us. Then, like a miracle, the power came back.
Thank you God, we live in a town with its own power company. Thank you God, the power was only out for an hour and a half. Much longer and despite the early hour we were going to sleep.
