Tonight I was privileged to see baby Lucia, who was four days old and I believe our youngest parishioner. A year ago it was Judith. There is such an amazing power with this new life.
They are so small, so innocent, they are dependent for all that gives them life. I have been fortunate to see the true love of mom and dad as they are so incredibly in love with their new one.
Today we all flocked to the baby. I talked to siblings who may or may not have been as excited. “She is so loud when she cries” was one response. But no matter what or where we are or what we are facing, the innocence, the powerlessness of an infant brings us all back to what really matters. We matter. Our life matters. We are special. God gave each one of us special gifts. Sometimes we need to be brought back to the newness, the innocence of life to remember what truly matters is each one of us.
