Garden Build Day 4
Today was a rough one. A tropical storm was moving in and we have been praying all week to be able to get a workday in. I thought it was great that the sun wasn’t shining on us all day. That was wrong. The dew point was 72. It would have been better with the sun. We have pop up tents to help us with that. Instead the air was super thick and it was hard to breathe through the mask and work, especially when the sweat was building under the mask.
Despite this, the teens once again amazed me. The chaperones were gathered to discuss how and what to do. We turned around to see teens placing the plants. Others were shoveling loam and continuing to spread it.
Different parishioners and friends stopped by all morning wanting to see what we were doing. Our teens loved giving tours and explaining the garden. It was uplifting to watch, especially when I was physically struggling.
A team went off to Home Depot with a long list while others stayed back working. The Home Depot team came back and we unloaded 90 cinder blocks, umpteen 4X4s, grapevines etc, etc. They pulled in and it was all hands on deck. Cars and trucks were unloaded. It wasn’t enough for these teens to unload cinder blocks they had to practice squats while carrying them. I am so unworthy. It was all I could do to just haul them.
Our workday ended early when the storm came in and the wind whipped up. But again, another amazing day.
